The Republican Insult

I’ve been keeping my blog head down lately. Not for lack of things that would provoke a good rant, but rather for the paralyzing flood of them. The depth and breadth of it; the unrelenting waves of pathetic, jaw-dropping stupidity. When bothered by a single mosquito, you simply swat it. When beset by a swarm of the blood thirsty bastards you have two choices: run away or go mad.
And, of course, the problem with not venting my spleen on a regular basis is that the shit backs up. And while it’s now a Stygian task to address each slice in the giant bread factory of fuckwittery – some of them are certainly past their “Best before” date – I am yet moved to comment, without necessarily digging too deeply into the DNA of any of them, on the seemingly never-ending string of insults to civility, good governance, fair play, reason, truth, fact, decency and humanity that is the contemporary Republican party, now whipping itself into a sad, vicious soiled tissue of tepid support for the lying, plastic idiot they could not find anyone to stop from buying the nomination. And lacking even a shred of honest enthusiasm for the Romneybot, they are falling back on the one thing they have in abundance – hatred of Obama and the simmering, barely spoken desire to get the black man out of the white house.

Mitt Romney. Jesus jumped up Mormon buffoon on trick skis. It’s one thing to be forced to profess belief in a god to have any sort of shot at being elected to the oval office, but to insist on the bullshit con, the ridiculous cult that is Mormonism ought to disqualify anyone from exercising any sort of political power. If you’re that fucking stupid, you cannot be trusted. I take professed theistic foolishness as a presidential given – no one can possibly be elected without at least minimal ass kissing below the imbecilic bible belt. The problem with Mitt and the GOP runs far deeper and is far more hideous than mere pandering to Jesus freaks, who don’t consider the followers of Joe Smith and Brigham Young REAL Christians anyway, despite (or perhaps due to) the magic underwear.

Since Barack Obama was inaugurated, the Republicans have opposed every effort made by the president to advance his agenda: the closure of Gitmo, the stimulus package, the auto bailout, health care reform, the debt ceiling, the payroll tax cut, equal pay, and the repeal of DADT. None of this opposition is principled or based on honest differences over good policy, but rather the result of an ugly, craven commitment to obstruction; a twisted conspiracy hatched on the night of Obama’s inauguration to defeat the president no matter what the cost to the American people.
They have engaged, tolerated and continue to provoke idiot birthers, racists and theocrats while hacking away at abortion rights, access to contraception, unions and voting rights. In the name of fiscal austerity, they have gutted state budgets resulting in the firing of teachers, police officers and fire fighters while slashing funding for unemployment, welfare, food stamps, planned parenthood, and attacked organizations dedicated to registering the poor to vote. Then they have the balls to turn around and blame the sluggish pace of the recovery from the economic disaster their own policies created and the high rate of unemployment on the president; the unmitigated gall to oppose the stimulus package and then turn around and ask Washington for money; the unfathomable temerity (after turning down millions in Federal assistance) to gut the public sector in their states and then hand out huge tax breaks to corporations.
Meanwhile they keep yammering that taxes must be cut despite the fact that the marginal tax rate is the lowest its been in 70 years.  After demanding that Bush tax cuts – THE single biggest contributor to the deficit– be made permanent AND opposing an extension the payroll tax cut (which puts money in the pockets of working people who then spend it – economic stimulus, anyone?) these bald-faced bastards continue to insist that the debt and deficit are the major problems facing America. They chant that government must be downsized but refuse to tell anyone which departments they would eliminate and which programs they would cut. They accuse Obama of wanting to “End Medicare as we know it” – a case of pure projection if ever there were – while refusing to wait to see if the law passed by congress actually works!  As with every other damn thing in the Republican platform – their entire raison d’etre has nothing to do with evidence, facts, reality or governing.  It ALL about opposing the Lamanite living at 1600, ensuring that nothing gets fixed, blaming the president for failing to fix everything by yesterday, and lying their foul holes off in support of those aims.

The GOP is a gang of rotten, backward, prevaricating assholes and it’s time they were called on it. I’m stuffed to the gills with the claim that there’s some sort of left-wing media conspiracy that’s in the tank for Obama and the Democrats, when the plain fact is that the media has utterly abdicated its responsibility to ask even remotely sharp questions or point out even one of the obvious bullshit talking points that are continually spewed in the vacuum of veracity that constitutes political news programming.
Week after butt-licking week: Newt Gingrich, Liz Cheney, Alex Castellanos, Dana Perino, George Will, Charles Krauthammer, Bill Kristol, David Brooks, Ross Douthat, Michelle Malkin, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Andrew Sullivan, Frank Luntz, David Gergen, Laura Ingraham, Pat Buchanan, Dick Morris, Sarah Palin, Anne Coulter, Tucker Carlson, Thomas Friedman, Joe Scarborough, Chris Matthews, Neil Cavuto, Gretchen Carlson, Mike Huckabee, Peggy Noonan, Oliver North – yeah, that’s some Liberal media conspiracy!
On the left, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Bill Maher and Rachel Maddow – three of whom are COMEDIANS! As for James Carville, Eliot Spitzer and Keith Olbermann, how often do you see any of those tepid centrists anywhere near a Sunday morning talk show? There is NO Liberal presence, period. And there never will be, because to let anyone with any knowledge of history and reality anywhere near that flatulent gang of water carriers for Republican bullshit would instantly reveal the Emperor prancing around naked. The corporate owned media, fully committed to their corrupt notion of balance and “Some people are saying” style of presentation, continue to provide the vast majority of their public airwaves to lying assholes in the belief that an overwhelming tsunami of propaganda will make up for a complete lack of substance and a thirty-year record of abject failure. And yet every one of those right wing bastards will tell you again and again about the Liberal slant of “the Lamestream” media; how they can’t get a fair shake; about the war on religion, the attacks on “Job Creators”, the homosexual agenda; that taxes must be cut and that the social security you’ve been paying into your entire life must be gutted, exchanged for vouchers and funneled off into secure Wall Street investments. One wonders how they could be any more scummy, vicious and evil…but one would need not wonder long.

The GOP has given up any pretense of trying to hide their lies and hypocrisy.
Paul Ryan, the Republican budgetary wunderkind has long extolled the brilliance of Ayn Rand. He publicly and proudly boasted that he gives his staffers copies of Atlas Shrugged and forces them to read it; that that awful piece of objectivist trash is the basis for the man he has become and the principles by which he believes government should operate. That lasted until someone pointed out to him a well known fact that anyone who actually knows anything about Ayn Rand already knew: Ayn was not merely a devout atheist – she hated religious faith; considered anyone stupid enough to fall for theistic nonsense to be a candidate for sterilization.
So, perhaps she wasn’t all bad…but that’s beside the point.  In the GOP worldview, the only thing worse than poor people, brown people, and women who don’t want to be pregnant are the godless atheists. Ryan, demonstrating the speed with which Republicans can engage hypocrisy of cosmic proportions, did not make any attempt to distinguish Rand’s economic ideas from her views on religion – he simply lied and asserted that Ayn’s ideas were “antithetical” to his own. But ditching the atheist who formed Paul Ryan into the proud, honourable intellectual he is was not enough! Ryan had to sand blast off the stain of godlessness with some pandering to Jesus, so he alleged that his budget plan was formed in the steel forge of his deep and abiding Catholic faith. That lasted less time than it took Peter to thrice deny Christ. Before the cock crowed the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops called out Ryan’s plan for being almost diametrically opposed to the teachings of his alleged lord and savior. Bishops to the left of him, Rand to the right…there he is, stuck in the middle all alone. But that will not stop him nor even slow him down because Ryan’s only true commitment is to the fantasy cult of Saint Ronnie and Freidmanite economic policy: Disaster capitalism.

The hypocrisy doesn’t end there. Hell, it doesn’t even begin there. You can’t swing a cat near a Republican without them trying to defund the SPCA while arguing that the way you grip the cat’s tail constitutes cruelty.
Back to Mitt. Oh, the many lies of Mitt Romney.
Mitt ran an ad in Michigan in which he said he recalled attending the Detroit Auto Show with his dear old dad. The ad cut to a picture of Mitt with his father. The picture was of him at the New York World’s Fair.
Mitt ran an ad featuring him tooling around in a car, talking about his support for the American auto industry. He was driving a car made in Canada.
The foregoing might dismissed as minor gaffes. Be patient, I’m just getting warmed up.

Mitt Romney said of president Obama:

“This is a president who has failed … to communicate that military options are on the table and in fact in our hand. And that it’s unacceptable to America for Iran to have a nuclear weapon.”

Here’s what president Obama SAID:

“In the conversations I’ve had over the course of three years, and over the course of the last three months and three weeks, what I’ve emphasized is that preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon isn’t just in the interest of Israel, it is profoundly in the security interests of the United States, and that when I say we’re not taking any option off the table, we mean it … I think that the Israeli government recognizes that, as president of the United States, I don’t bluff. I also don’t, as a matter of sound policy, go around advertising exactly what our intentions are. But I think both the Iranian and the Israeli governments recognize that when the United States says it is unacceptable for Iran to have a nuclear weapon, we mean what we say.”

Mitt Romney, in a craven effort to deflect from the Republican war on women – from access to contraception to trans-vaginal ultrasound – asserted that 93% of jobs lost under president Obama were women. Despite the fact the the President’s policies are creating jobs, and that the vast majority of job losses are attributable to Republican policies under Bush, the fact of Romney’s statistical manipulation (read LYING) is here.

Rachel Maddow has devoted some effort to chronicling the unending string of lies that spill out of Mitt Romney every time he opens his mouth:

In a speech in Ohio, Romney referred to the Bush/Cheney era as “before the recession.”

The recession began in late 2007, more than a year before President Obama’s inauguration. The economy crashed in September 2008, four months before Obama took office. Someone who claims an expertise in economic policy probably ought to know that.

In the same speech, Romney summarized his message to young people: “[I]t’s so critical, in my view, for you to consider what’s in the best interest of not just yourself, but of America, over the coming century, and it is to stop the excessive overspending.”

Annual domestic spending is already on track to become the smallest share of the economy since Dwight Eisenhower’s administration.

In the same speech, Romney said once “Obamacare” is implemented, “government at all levels” will “consume” 50% of the American economy.

David Corn explains today that this is Romney’s arguably “biggest fib,” which falls “somewhere between ‘ridiculous’ and ‘stupid.'”

In New Hampshire, Romney said Obama is “focused on taking away from those who have the least.”

That’s blatantly untrue in an ironic sort of way. Romney’s tax plan calls for higher taxes on those at the lowest end of the income scale. He also intends to cut food stamps, Medicaid, and educational spending, which benefit those who have the least.

Romney also vowed, “I want to help the poor.”

First, see above. Second, he specifically said earlier this year, “I’m not very concerned about the poor.”

The Romney campaign argued this week that the former governor’s position on the auto-industry rescue “was exactly what President Obama followed,” adding, “The only economic success that President Obama has had is because he followed Mitt Romney’s advice.”

Romney condemned Obama’s efforts on the industry rescue repeatedly, including throughout the GOP primaries. He can’t oppose the policy and take credit for the policy at the same time, at least not if he’s being honest.

In a speech in Virginia yesterday, Romney blamed “card check” for making things “tougher” on businesses.

Card check didn’t pass, so it’s impossible for Romney’s argument to be true.

In the same speech, Romney said Obama has “added about 150,000 government workers.”

That’s the opposite of reality, and reflects an unnerving ignorance about job policy.

Romney, at the same event, said raising the top marginal income tax rate would force small businesses to “cut back” and not “hire more.”

This is one of those zombie lies that never goes away, but it’s still not true.

Romney went on to condemn Obama for “shutting down” a “wonderful” school voucher program in the District of Columbia.

Obama didn’t shut down the school voucher program in the District of Columbia. It still exists.

Mitt Romney lies. All the time, about everything. He will say whatever he thinks will work, whatever will stoke anger and resentment, whatever will support the policies in which he claims to believe on any given day despite the fact that he will not tell anyone in any specific way what those policies are, how they might be implemented or present any sort of core philosophy upon which his vaporous claims might rest. And THIS prevaricating, uncomfortable, out of touch, stiff, phoney, filthy rich Mormon with offshore bank accounts is the best the Republicans can come up with.

These fuckers will not stop until they are beaten like a rented mule. And anyone who says there’s no difference – that the Democrats are equally bad, is not only not paying attention, they’re just plain goddamn stupid.
The next president is going to move the country in one direction or another; he will appoint at least two Supreme Court justices who will be there for life. And if you think the guy who got Bin Laden, repealed DADT, extended health care to 30 million Americans, saved the auto industry, and doesn’t lie like a fucking rug isn’t to be clearly preferred, you deserve the rotten Republican hate fucking you may well get. You deserve the return of torture as American policy and a war with Iran; trans-vaginal ultrasounds and tax cuts for the rich; the gutting of the social safety net and the privatization of social security; the overturning of Roe v. Wade and the elimination of welfare and food stamps; the teaching of creationism in the science classroom and the wholesale sell-off of the roads, power grids and water systems that were built with YOUR money.

There are serious threats to the safety and security of the American people. They are called Republicans.

  1. I know how you feel cousinavi. There is so much awful coming from the right lately it’s overwhelming. Thanks for laying it all out us so well.

  2. You know things are totally in the shitter when Cousinavi says something positive (albeit marginally) about Ayn Rand and the Catholic church in the same rant. That translates into some pretty hefty condemnation for Mr Ryan. (Hmm…Mr Ryand?)

These fuckers will not stop until they are beaten like a rented mule. And anyone who says there’s no difference – that the Democrats are equally bad, is not only not paying attention, they’re just plain goddamn stupid.

Sure, the Democrats suck shit. Sure, they lie and bullshit, take bribes and everything else. But here’s the difference:

The Republicans do it so frequently and at such a higher level, it is almost literally all they do and they are far better at it.

Why? Because they HAVE to. If they were open and forthright about their policies and objectives, they could hardly ever win. This despite the fact that they are the ONLY alternative to the Democrats. Their core policies are just not in the best interests of the vast majority of Americans. That’s why they engage in so much finger pointing and meaningless, half hearted, sideshows.

Most Republican politicians do not give a shit about homosexuality. Half the Republicans working on Capital Hill are gay, including Bush’s former front-man of his anti-gay agenda. Most Republican politicians do not give that much of a shit about following God’s will. They at least don’t let their personal beliefs interfere with their jobs. Most Republican politicians do not give a shit about Freedom. Check out the Patriot Act and the power of the military-industrial-spy complex. Hell, most Republican politicos don’t even believe in fiscal responsibility. Despite what they say or how they vote, truth is only small segments of the party actually believe in any of the above.

However, pretending to believe in the above is what cons the bigots, the religious, libertarians and others to vote for them. They often deliver for these folks, but many are hollow victories. (ie banning things that don’t exist like Sharia Law in Oklahoma) The reality is most of what they do is just market positioning.

The one thing that binds the party, the one thing they truly and totally believe in is maintaining the wealth and power of the powerful and wealthy. They will do this at the expense of ALL else. They will hug gays, vote against God’s will, violate the rights of Americans, ring up the debt, destroy the economy, and ruin the lives of all but the upper crust of America. The rest is a charade.

The Democrats aren’t much better, but they’re the best of what little choice Americans have.

  3. righteous.

  4. […] are serious threats to the safety and security of the American people. They are called Republicans. Share […]

  5. ” the ridiculous cult that is Mormonism ought to disqualify anyone from exercising any sort of political power. ”

So, you don’t believe in the 1st Amendmentof the US Constitution?

    • Freedom of religion is fine. So is the freedom to say, “If you buy that ridiculous bullshit, I’m not voting for you because you’re a buffoon.”
