John Stewart appeared on Bill O’Reilly’s program to have a debate over the “Rapper invited to the White House” bullshit being spun up by Fox News in their inimitable race-baiting, lying style. In the second part of the interview O’Reilly asked Stewart, “Would there ever be a scenario where you could see not voting for Barack Obama and voting for a Republican?”
“Sure,” Stewart said. “If I didn’t have a clear sense of the direction he wanted to move the country in, and somebody else had a more logical sense of where to take it.” O’Reilly expressed surprise at this, and asked if Obama had lived up to Stewart’s expectations.
“No, but I don’t know if my expectations were fair,” he said. “I believed we lived in a more transformative time…I think he had an opportunity more in the Reagan mode to be a bully pulpit president.”
1. That’s a pretty big “IF”.
2. Stewart is simply giving the only sane answer, unlike O’Reilly (not to mention Hannity, Palin, Huckabee, et al) who would never vote for a Democratic candidate no matter which brainless, racist, xenophobic, theocratic, science denying, jingoistic, torture porn addicted, page raping, airport bathroom trysting knuckle dragger the GOP coughed up.
For these Machiavelian bastards, being educated, competent, ethical, trustworthy, sane and capable are after thoughts and all trumped by having an (R) next to one’s name.
Nevertheless, expect much crowing and spinning from the Usual Suspects on the right as they gleefully twist Stewart’s perfectly reasonable response to a purely hypothetical question into, “Jon Stewart Will Vote Against Obama!”
