Fake Witchery

From Canada:

Peel Regional Police have charged a Brampton man with fraud for pretending to practice witchcraft.

Investigators allege the suspect was taking money for witchcraft-related services at his home.

Police say the kinds of services the suspect offered are not being released due to the investigation.

It’s believed the services had been offered for well over a year, and police are asking for anyone with information to come forward.

Yogendra Pathak, 44, has been charged with fraud under $5,000 and pretending to practice witchcraft.

One wonders what the charge would be for practicing real witchcraft.
Either the charge is redundant, or some Peel Regional cops are about to be turned into newts. They may expect to get better.

  1. I heard this on CBC radio and thought “pretending” to be a witch?

I too wonder if being an actual follower of Wiki -er-Wicca is illegal too? Or is it just illegal to fake it? If faking it was illegal, womens’ prisons would be overflowing.

    • I think it’s the fraud element that was at some point (and for what must have been very weird reasons about which I could only speculate) the subject of specific legislation.
One supposes if the witchery were real – verifiable under controlled laboratory conditions – at least three things would follow:
      1. It ain’t fraud
      2. The practitioner would be hella busy
      3. No one would dare complain.

      Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble.

      • Yeah. You sure don’t want to be throwing accusations of being a witch around because calling somebody a witch is a dangerous self-fulfilling prophecy. If she ain’t already a witch, she most certainly will turn into one.
