The Thing

Sarah Palin has a new post on her Facebook page – a list of congressional districts she and her PAC are “targeting” for the midterm elections. They’re all over the country, yet quite obviously chosen for certain qualities. None, for example, are in New York, Connecticut, California, New Hampshire, or Oregon. They’re in Arizona, Colorado, West Virginia, Florida and South Carolina. That must be where one finds Real Americans.
The specific representatives voted for the health care bill (making them communist fascist Marxist baby killers), AND they are in districts carried by John McCain in the 2008 election. This last, one supposes, provides some assurance that there are people in those places for whom the presence of Sarah Palin, reading simplistic sound bites from her hand, isn’t political poison.
I am amazed that Sarah Palin carries any weight. She, at least as much as the bumbling McCain and his staff, was responsible for the absolute thrashing of the GOP. Her displays of vapidity, weak comprehension of simple civics, fundamental ignorance on matters of grave importance, craven exploitation of her children, serious questions about ethics and an inability to manage coherent sentences made her a public laughing stock. And yet, here she comes again – failed vice presidential candidate – traveling about the country to stump for teabaggers.
At least she’ll get some more mileage out of the $150,000 wardrobe she picked up at Neiman Marcus, but those outfits are SO two years ago.

“We’re going to reclaim the power of the people from those who disregarded the will of the people…”
“We’re going to fire them and send them back to the private sector, which has been shrinking thanks to their destructive government-growing policies. Maybe when they join the millions of unemployed, they’ll understand why Americans wanted them to focus on job creation and an invigorated private sector. Come November, we’re going to print pink slips for members of Congress as fast as they’ve been printing money.”

It is this sort of stupidity, this insistent refusal to deal with reality, that is so bewildering. And not just as expressed by Palin almost every time she opens her mouth – that she’s disconnected from the facts ought to surprise no one – but that there is a sufficient number of Americans for whom such ignorant, incompetent, uneducated drivel is not only accepted as truth, but who find such blather inspiring.
The “will of the people” drum that Sarah continuously beats was expressed very clearly in November 2008. Not only does that simple, defining truth fail to move Palin, it is a truth she consistently pretends does not exist.
The “shrinking private sector” has almost nothing to do with “government growing policies” (pull the string – Palin says policy!) and everything to do with the unregulated clusterfuck in the financial markets that were the direct result of Reaganomics.
Nevertheless, leaving aside the delusions and shortcomings of Palin the person, what the fuck is a single-term (sorta almost) governor from Alaska / failed vice presidential candidate doing traveling from state to state stumping for conservative candidates in midterm elections? When has anything like this ever happened before?
Certainly presidents have done such things…except those times when the candidates didn’t want to sink themselves and told George Bush to stay the hell away…but where does Sarah Palin get the drag to swing elections? That, in itself, is a troubling aspect to American electoral politics and a scathing assessment of at least some voters.

  1. I was born and raised in West Virginia, and I can tell you the two she’s targeted there – Rahall and Mollohan – are thoroughly entrenched. She doesn’t have a chance of helping anybody beat either of them.

  2. As much as I dislike throwing violence at violence, somebody oughta target HER.

  3. Outside of her experience as a short-term Governor and failed VPILF, anything Sarah Palin has to say about anything is completely irrelevant and should be treated as such. Besides him being dead, the only reason her name is more recognized than Lloyd Bentsen is because her act is far more entertaining and that’s what the News Biz is now, Show Biz.

The reason she is such a media favourite is because she is such a lightening rod, is very TV friendly in both looks & demeanour, and that she is a never ending source (of stupidity). Who needs journalism when all all you have to do is put a microphone in front of this bitch to generate ratings?
