Congratulations to Ding Junhui

I’m an O’Sullivan fan, so was sad to see Ronnie go out 9-8 to John Higgins in the semis. Given the standard of play in that match, and the sporadic flashes of talent from the long suffering Ding Junhui, the outcome seemed almost a foregone conclusion.
Surprise! Ding stepped up and showed the sort of snooker he’s been threatening since he burst on the scene as an extraordinarily dangerous challenger from Beijing. I said years ago that Ding would be the next first-time winner of the world championship. I was wrong – Shaun Murphy came along as a qualifier and picked up the title, and Mark Selby seems to be hovering around patiently as well. But with this performance at the UK Championships, Ding must be considered back in the hunt.
Congratulations, Ding!
