GOP HATE – Sacramento Republican Racism

From Crooks and Liars:

Sacramento County Republican leaders Tuesday took down
offensive material on their official party Web site that sought to link Sen. Barack Obama to Osama bin Laden and encouraged people to “Waterboard Barack Obama” – material that offended even state GOP leaders.

Taking credit for the site (sacramentorepublicans.org) and its content was county party chairman Craig MacGlashan – husband of Sacramento County Supervisor Roberta MacGlashan.

The Bee asked MacGlashan about the content after seeking his reaction to hate-filled graffiti that was spray-painted over an Obama display on a fence at Fair Oaks Boulevard and Garfield Avenue.

In recent weeks, MacGlashan, an attorney, joined local Democratic party officials in condemning vandalism to political displays.

The vandalism to the Obama display appeared to have been done overnight Monday. A racial epithet, profanity, “KKK” and the words “white power” were clearly visible from the roadway. Six of the nine fence panels were defaced.

“What you are describing to me is not free speech, it’s vandalism. We don’t condone it,” MacGlashan said.

But he defended his Web site. “I’m aware of the content,” he said. “Some people find it offensive, others do not. I cannot comment on how people interpret things.” (emphasis mine)

Here is my response, emailed to the President of the River City Republicans, Carl Burton:

Dear Carl:

There can be no doubt that you, by this time, are aware of the materials that were posted on your website (since removed) which portrayed Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife MIchelle in ways that many have described as racist.
I am writing to thank you, sir, for demonstrating the courage to show your true colors, those of the GOP in general and Sacramento specifically.  There could be no greater demonstration of what the Republican party has sadly become, and what must be once and forever dismissed as low, shallow, rude, ugly and for far too long an unattended festering boil on the ass of America.

The Southern Strategy, gerrymandering districts in Texas, uncounted minority votes in Florida, rigged counts in Ohio, racism, hatred, fear and lies designed to inflame the most base and hideous passions in the weakest and most desperate minds.  It is not enough that the material has been removed.  It would not be enough were you to honestly feel shame for having allowed them to be posted in the first place (although you would be hard pressed to convince me even if that were the case).

No, sir.  All that will suffice is a complete and utter routing of the GOP on November 4th.
An electoral defeat so profound and resounding, of such depth and breadth, that it will be generations before your embarrassing excuse for a political party dares to stand a candidate.  Justice requires that you spend the next few decades trailing fringe third party candidates – the only fitting rebuke for tactics such as these and the minds that consider them a profitable path to follow.

My writing style, I assure you, is not usually so polite in matters such as these.  It costs me some degree of effort to restrain the urge to launch into a tirade of foul language the likes of which you have never read anywhere.  Sadly, that would only allow you to dismiss the unquestionable truth of my proposition as the ranting of an angry and vicious mind – a proper response, I submit, to the sort of pathetic, mean, low, gutter behaviour exhibited by you and your cohorts in full public view.

One would hope that an abject and contrite apology would be forthcoming immediately – to the American people whom you have so insulted, manipulated and abused; to Barack Obama and his wife personally, and to the founding fathers, with whose concept of a free, fair government of the people, by the people and for the people you have so cravenly wiped your ass.

I close, sir, by saying with the utmost sincerity: Go to hell.

  2. That is the most powerful letter I have read in a long time. I’m an ex-republican (newly resigned) for the reasons that you outlined in the letter. Many of us refuse to be aligned with the likes of these yahoos who are behaving in a way that is truly unAmerican. Thank you for speaking out !
